To decode news messages
- Double-click the news message you want to decode.
- From the Message window, choose Unscramble (ROT13).
Tip
- ROT13 is an encryption method that rotates the characters in a word 13 letters to the right in the alphabet. This makes it look like jibberish until it is decrypted and the characters are rotated back 13 characters.
- News message are encoded to prevent you for "accidentally" reading something that you would not have chosen to read. For example, reviews or discussions of movies that involve revealing the plot and ending are often encoded so that people who have not seen the movie will not have it spoiled for them.
- Mail messages can also be encoded using ROT13.
To save file enclosures
- Select the news message that contains the enclosure you want to download.

- If a file that you receive from the Internet is compressed and encoded (for example, Example.sit.hqx), Internet Mail and News will unencode it for you, but you will need to have a program, such as Stuffit, to uncompress it.
